About the role

Are you an experienced environmental professional looking to make a meaningful impact?

Join our dynamic and growing Sydney team, where you’ll take a lead role in developing client relationships, shaping the JBS&G brand within our Environmental Approvals service, and working closely with our highly regarded in-house Principals.

You'll collaborate nationally with JBS&G’s multidisciplinary experts to deliver high-quality environmental assessments and approvals across a range of sectors. This is a unique opportunity to lead significant projects, expand your professional network, and contribute to major developments across NSW and beyond.

Tasks and responsibilities

You’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering environmental approvals for a diverse range of clients and projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the delivery of high-quality environmental approvals across a mix of small to large-scale infrastructure, energy, and development projects.
  • Interpreting environmental legislation, policy, and guidelines to design tailored approvals strategies that unlock project success.
  • Engaging directly with State and Commonwealth regulators to understand and respond to their needs, supporting smooth project approvals and positive outcomes.
  • Building trusted relationships with clients through clear communication, proactive support, and excellent service.
  • Preparing compelling proposals, referrals, and approvals documentation that meet the needs of clients and regulators.
  • Managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables with a sharp eye for detail and accountability.
  • Contributing to business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, writing bids, and supporting strategic growth.

About you

  • At least 5 years’ experience in environmental assessments and approvals in NSW, ideally within a consulting environment.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, planning, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation, planning pathways, and approval processes (e.g. REF, SEE, EIA/EIS).
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver small to medium projects independently, with experience coordinating tasks, subconsultants, timelines, and budgets.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to tailor your message for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High-quality report writing skills, and pride in delivering clear, accurate, and professional documentation.
  • Strong client relationship skills, built through trust, responsiveness, and delivery of quality outcomes.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, manage project deadlines and budgets, and remain focused under pressure.
  • A positive, proactive approach, with a commitment to teamwork, continual learning, and mentoring others.
