About the role

With a growing pipeline of projects, Aventus Consulting is seeking a Mid-level (3-7 years) and/or Senior Environmental Consultant (7-10 years) to join our team.  

The role reports to the Managing Director and involves: 

  • Providing environmental and regulatory advice to clients. 
  • Preparing and coordinating environmental impact assessment (EIA) documents, including: 
    • Offshore Environment Plans (EPs);
    • Onshore Environmental Management Plans (EMPs);
    • EPBC Act Referrals; 
    • Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (Cth);
    • Environmental Effects Statement (EES) (Vic); and 
    • Preparing Oil Spill Emergency Plans (OPEPs).
  • Coordinating (scope, manage and review) specialist consultants to deliver technical studies used to support EIA (e.g., ecology, heritage, and modelling studies for oil spill, underwater sound, produced formation water, drill cuttings and muds dispersion) and summarising and interpreting results for EIA reports. 
  • Participating in and/or facilitating risk assessment workshops.
  • Undertaking stakeholder consultation;
    • Preparing and maintaining stakeholder registers.
    • Preparing and disseminating stakeholder collateral.
    • Participating in stakeholder meetings. 
    • Providing environmental and regulatory advice to stakeholders in plain English. 
    • Analysing the results of stakeholder engagement to determine issues for consideration in EIA.
    • Recording meeting outcomes and summarising stakeholder engagement for inclusion in EIA documents.
  • Liaising with government regulators. 
  • Working closely with clients’ engineering teams. 
  • Assisting clients with project implementation (compliance and assurance management, end-of-project reporting).
  • Leading and/or assisting with inspections and audits (you must be prepared to travel by vessel and helicopter offshore) and preparing audit reports.
  • Working to a high standard within time and budget.
  • Building relationships with clients to promote the business and win projects.
  • Contributing to the preparation of project proposals.
  • Supporting the Director with other duties as required.

This is a full-time staff position. 

There is a strong preference for the role to be based in the Melbourne office. There is some flexibility to work from home, as required, for the right candidate.

Required qualifications

Essential

Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Marine Biology, Natural Resource Management or equivalent.

Ideal additional qualifications

Auditing qualifications.

Post-graduate HSE qualifications.  

Required skills and experience

SENIOR ROLE

Essential

  • 7-10 years consulting experience. 
  • Strong experience preparing or contributing to offshore environmental approvals (seismic, drilling, construction, operations) under the NOPSEMA regulatory regime. 
  • Project management skills. 
  • Understanding of hydrocarbon spill behaviour, preparedness and response. 
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and state-based environmental and industry-specific legislation, particularly the OPGGS(E) Regulations and EPBC Act.
  • Managing compliance programs.
  • Working knowledge of risk assessment methods. 
  • Proven problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 
  • Vehicle driving licence.

Ideal 

  • Onshore and/or offshore auditing experience. 
  • On-ground environmental management. 
  • EIA for renewable energy projects.
  • HSE management system development and implementation.
MID-LEVEL ROLE

Essential

  • 3-7 years consulting experience. 
  • Experience preparing environmental approvals, energy or otherwise. 
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and state-based environmental and industry-specific legislation.
  • Working knowledge of risk assessment methods. 
  • Proven problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of GIS. 
  • Vehicle driving licence.

Ideal 

  • HSE management system implementation.
  • Auditing experience.
