About the Opportunity:
With our continued success in the resources, renewable energy, and local government sectors, our Queensland Ecology Team is recruiting for a Senior Ecologist to join our talented team in Brisbane.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, delivering innovative environmental and ecological solutions for our clients. We encourage employees to rethink traditional methods of project and technical delivery to develop these solutions.

Our client’s projects are located across the whole of Queensland. On any given day you may be undertaking threatened species surveys for national infrastructure projects, identifying and mapping Regional Ecosystems, protected plants and threatened ecological communities, and helping clients plan and monitor the success of their biodiversity offsets.

The role will also include proposal and report preparation, client liaison, and project management. As a Senior Ecologist, you will work closely with the Ecology Team Leads to deliver high quality technical work, mentor staff and live our company values.

At a national scale, you will connect and collaborate with the wider Ecology Discipline consisting of more than 70 ecologists. Here, you will learn new skills and play your own unique part in helping us fulfill our company’s vision of:

“Leading with science, to inform critical environmental decisions, and deliver positive solutions”.

About you:
We know you are looking for a company where you can grow your passion for ecology, follow your purpose, and provide environmental solutions that make a difference. If you also love to laugh hard and work hard within a team of highly motivated and talented people, you’ll fit right in.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Previous ecological experience in Queensland (6+ years as a guide). Central Queensland experience would be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge and experience in Regional Ecosystem mapping and BioCondition assessments.
  • Ability to autonomously organise and lead surveys for targeted threatened species, threatened ecological communities, ground truthing of regional ecosystems and habitat and condition assessments in accordance with Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
  • Capacity and interest in undertaking fieldwork (up to 12 days duration) in remote locations, or for the mining and resources sector.
  • Strong flora identification skills would be highly regarded.
  • Project management experience and confidence in engaging with clients.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • An ability and desire to share your genius and provide training / mentoring in area of expertise.
  • Previous experience with offsets under both Queensland and Commonwealth requirements would be highly regarded.

If you wish to work for ELA but feel you may not meet all the criteria for this position, we encourage you to still get in touch. You may be a perfect fit for another ecology role in our Queensland team.

We will offer you:
We are Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) compliant, reviewing equality of pay across each role in our company. We have a friendly and inclusive team, who enjoy socialising and sharing stories from field trips. We promote flexible and hybrid working options for all positions.

You can view our company benefits on our careers page www.ecoaus.com.au/careers, and be encouraged to know that we have a progressive, non-gendered, 12 weeks paid parental leave policy. Let’s not forget the birthday leave benefit (that’s right, you get an extra day off on your birthday!).
