Permanent role; Parramatta base, and site based throughout Sydney Water’s area of operations

About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic leader to oversee the environmental approvals, assurance, and sustainability aspects of our Major Projects Portfolio. This role will drive the successful management of environmental and sustainability matters throughout the entire project lifecycle—from need identification and planning to design, construction, commissioning, and benefits realization.

As the lead for this critical function, you will facilitate collaboration between Sydney Water and Special Purpose Delivery Consortia, ensuring seamless execution of complex programs. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strategic, long-term relationships with internal teams, government agencies, and supply chain partners.

Your role involves establishing and implementing integrated management strategies for environmental and sustainability issues, guiding a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-value, high-profile capital investments. Your efforts will ensure that these major projects achieve optimal customer and environmental performance outcomes, aligning with Sydney Water’s Strategy. Duties include but are not limited to;

Accountable for ensuring the portfolio of major projects identify appropriate planning pathways and secure and deliver against all requirements of associated environmental, land use, sustainability and other related statutory approvals.

Oversee the provision of strategic environmental and sustainability services, including resource planning to enable the delivery of the suite of Major Projects at any given time.

Advise on the relevant environmental and sustainability requirements for all phases of Major Projects from planning and project development to operational handover and benefits realization, including advising on the environmental and due diligence requirements associated with major ($100m +) commercial transactions

Who are we looking for? 

You must be able to work in both office and site-based environments

You will have:

Relevant degree qualification (e.g. Environmental Science or Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Law) or experience deemed equivalent

Relevant industry accreditations and professional memberships considered favourably

Demonstrated experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary integrated teams and/or alliances

Experience in development and delivery and environmental assessment and approvals associated with Major Projects

15+ years’ work experience in environmental management and sustainability for delivery of multiple large investment programs
