Are you passionate about developing the hydrogeologist of the future, giving them the tools and guidance to be their best?

Are you at your best when you’re delivering value, creating opportunities and leading in areas that matter most to you?

This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

At EMM, we believe that a sustainable future is achievable and we proactively pursue opportunities to help our clients and the community make it a reality. Our dedicated team of environmental professionals are committed to driving positive change through innovation, collaboration and out-of-the-box thinking.

We were honoured to be recognised in the 2025 Beaton Client Choice Awards. Unlike many industry awards, the Client Choice Awards are judged solely on client feedback. That’s what makes this recognition so meaningful:

  • Best Built & Natural Environment Consulting Firm (>$30M revenue)
  • Most Trusted Firm: Built & Natural Environment Consulting
  • Best Provider of ESG Services: Built & Natural Environment Consulting

We are looking for an Associate Hydrogeologist to join our innovative Groundwater team. Our diverse range of projects spans the mining and energy sectors, demanding creative approaches in a rapidly evolving industry. Our team is large, international, and well-connected, featuring experienced and well-recognised groundwater specialists. We partner with our clients to provide pragmatic and innovative solutions, operating with a global delivery model that exposes you to a variety of challenging and meaningful projects both in Australia and internationally and the opportunity to develop by working directly with many experienced mentors.

We offer flexibility that works for you and hybrid working options that mean this role could be based at any of the following locations: Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane.

Here’s what you can expect in your new role with EMM:

  • Effectively manage a variety of projects and groundwater impact assessments across our key industries including mining, renewable energy and infrastructure.
  • Serve as a groundwater lead, liaising with clients, subcontractors and government departments, and produce high quality outputs for your projects.
  • Navigate through technically complex projects, drawing on your experience to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Work autonomously, whilst continuing to be a key team member, collaborating with peers in Groundwater and our wider business.
  • Actively look for opportunities to secure follow-on work from existing clients.
  • Mentor junior team members, ensuring their continued growth and excellence.
  • The support you need to deliver exceptional quality with specialist teams across EMM and leaders who are truly present and excited to help you deliver
  • Development in many ways; whether you learn best through structured development programs, mentoring or on the job with industry leaders, you’ll have the support you need to grow
  • Satisfaction from inspiring and supporting other EMMer’s on their development journey
  • The autonomy, flexibility and support you need to balance all aspects of your life
  • With offices across Australia; you’ll be able to flex and enjoy hybrid working at its best

Here’s what you’ll bring to have impact:

  • A degree in environmental engineering or geoscience preferably with a focus on geology, hydrogeology and/or groundwater management.
  • A strong background in hydrogeology, with experience in groundwater impact assessments, development of hydrogeological conceptual models and management of fieldwork programs.
  • Proven experience managing or delivering projects within NSW groundwater regulations, including the Water Management Act 2000, relevant water licensing, dewatering approvals, and associated groundwater impact assessments.
  • Proven project management skills that have helped to achieve high quality delivery outcomes.
  • Proven experience delivering projects within the mining sector. Experience in asset transition or pumped hydro would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Respect – you listen and understand other’s views and work together to create opportunities for all
  • Integrity - you do what is right for your stakeholders to deliver what is true as opposed to popular
  • Humility - you understand the strength of humility and that no one is bigger than the team.

We look forward to hearing from you! When you submit your application, look out for our email confirming safe receipt and important information regarding next steps.
