The opportunity
Our Advisory team in Perth is recruiting a new role for a Technical Director - Environment Management and Approvals. You will support the Advisory Lead, WA in developing local environmental management and approvals capability. The role will be an integral part of growing our Environment and Approvals team managing environmental, sustainability and development approval works across major projects in our transport, built environment, water and energy sectors, and being an integral part of multidisciplinary teams.

We are seeking an experienced Environment Management and Approvals Advisor with significant experience in renewable energy and transport to work with State-based, National, and Global virtual teams to support major multi-disciplinary programs and projects. You'll be working on significant projects that shape the communities in which we live. Building connections across our networks of international experts, you will bring this knowledge to our clients and to their projects.

Key duties:

  • Develop, build and lead an Environment and Approvals team with an initial focus on supporting key renewable energy and transport clients, however with a view to supporting our broader client portfolio in the medium term.
  • Collaborating with other Sector Leads in Western Australia to develop and deliver cross-sector opportunities for renewable energy, transport, and defence projects
  • Business development activities including leveraging existing client relationships, building new relationships and leading the development of proposals to secure advisory work from key clients including key Transport and Energy clients and to support the development of a diverse and robust business.
  • Provide market insight and keep abreast of industry trends and market opportunities and engage with our clients to share our collective experience.
  • Managing/mentoring environment and approvals consultants/engineers to aid in creating a high performing team.
  • Acting as the Environment and Approvals Lead, and potentially Project/Program Lead for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Supporting Mott MacDonald's social value strategy and approaches to delivering benefits to local communities, with a particular focus on social benefits to the planning and development of infrastructure.

What you will bring to the team:

With tertiary qualifications relevant to environmental management, engineering, planning, science, or related field. You will have proven skills in project management.

  • You will bring and establish positive relationships and will secure environment and approvals work from a range of clients in Western Australia and other jurisdictions. This will include:
  • Experience in working on major infrastructure design and construction projects, in Western Australia.
  • Experience in navigating approvals processes, including engagement with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing environmental assessments and approvals for infrastructure and development projects.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in project management of multi-disciplinary assessment teams and sub consultants.
  • Ability to work with people from other engineering disciplines of the Mott MacDonald team.
