Job Title:  Senior Scientist

Employment Type: Temporary

Duration: Up to 30 months

About the Role:

Joining the Science Division as a Senior Scientist, you will be joining the Climate and Atmospheric Science Branch within the Environment, Energy and Science (EES) Group which is part of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. In this role you will:

  • Support and influence the strategic direction of science priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a range of collaborative networks across EES, government agencies, universities and other research providers.
  • Provide expert advice and communication to relevant stakeholders across EES regarding the status of projects.
  • Maintain the highest standards of open communication, collaboration, data and knowledge management.
  • Prepare a range of project related documents.
  • Contribute to the development of project management methodologies and processes.
  • Manage aspects of scientific project implementation.
  • Assess staff skill needs and identify training programs, and manage team members to ensure that science is delivered to agreed timelines and quality.

 

Essential requirements: 

  • Relevant science degree qualification.
  • Environmental science qualifications, well-developed knowledge and experience in developing and delivering rigorous science projects.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with a team to deliver customer focused results from science projects.
  • Experience in project management including budgets, allocation of resources, and ability to report on results achieved.

 

To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:

  • Experience in emission estimation, and/or
  • Experience in land sector modelling, and/or
  • Skills in spatial data analysis and visualisation.

 

Agency overview 

The Planning, Industry and Environment Cluster brings together the functions from the former Planning & Environment and Industry Clusters.

The new Cluster will drive for greater levels of integration and efficiency across key areas such as long term planning, precincts, housing, property, infrastructure priorities, open space, the environment, our natural resources – land, water, mining – energy, and growing our industries. In particular, there will be a redoubling of emphasis on regional NSW.
