This opportunity would suit a professional who will enjoy living in a regional Queensland city close to the coast and countryside, while developing a career in an organisation that has a diversity of clients and supports professional development of its staff.

Prefer people who have personal connections or experience working in regional Queensland with experience in contaminated site investigations and remediation.

Based in Mackay, Rockhampton or Gladstone as our lead contaminated land scientist, your role will include the following:

  • Project management of a variety of contaminated land investigations, including preparation of proposals, Sampling and Analysis Plans, health and safety plans, interpretation of laboratory analysis and writing of technical reports.
  • Supervision of intrusive investigation programs, including drilling programs, installation of groundwater monitoring wells and sampling of soils, sediments, surface waters and groundwaters.
  • Working with civil contractors and ecologists to prepare remediation plans.
  • Supervision and auditing of contractors during earthworks and remediation programs.
  • Training junior level staff in various field techniques, equipment calibration and reporting.
  • Continually seeking to introduce innovative technologies for investigation and remediation projects.
  • Continue to build the company’s land contamination and remediation business.

 

The Candidate

We are looking for someone with the following background, skills and approach:

  • Ideally over 10 years’ experience, with proven experience as an environmental engineer or scientist specialising in contaminated land investigations.
  • A degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology or Environmental Science.
  • Experience in investing emerging contaminants, including PFAS.
  • Have, or be working towards, being a Certified Environmental Practitioner (Site Contamination) or Certified Professional Soil Scientist.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to ensuring a positive workplace and WHS culture.
  • Strong report writing skills, fieldwork and data management experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues to achieve outcomes and deadlines for clients.
  • Creative thinker and innovative problem solver.
  • Solid leadership qualities and experience in day-to-day supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant local standards and legislation; Qld contaminated land experience is essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and broad communication and negotiation skills.
  • Aptitude for utilising established networks to assist in establishing leads for projects and business development.

 

A full current drivers licence is required and candidates must be Australian citizens. You will be involved in technical reporting and field work, therefore an ability and willingness to work remotely in the field is required.
