Talent Partner Australia are proud to be partnering with Port Authority of New South Wales to identify the next member of their Sustainability and Environment team.  Port Authority of New South Wales manages the navigation, security, and operational safety for commercial shipping in Sydney Harbour, Port Botany, Newcastle Harbour, Port Kembla, Eden, and Yamba.  Managing over 6,000 annual visits from trade and cruise vessels, these ports significantly contribute to the economy, generating billions, creating jobs and supporting businesses. Port Authority operates 24/7 to ensure ship safety, port security, and marine environment protection.

Your new role
As Senior Environment and Planning Specialist, you will be involved with a diverse range of tasks including:

  • Managing external consultants as well as your own hands-on project delivery tasks to ensure high quality preparation of environmental assessments and environmental approvals including SSIs, REFs, SEEs etc. 
  • Review and assess DAs requiring the Port Authority’s input or landowner’s consent including coordinating internal reviews and making recommendations
  • Review and monitor operations and planning applications to ensure they comply with legislation and incorporate Port Authority’s environmental and sustainability policies and principles
  • Providing actionable, strategic environmental and planning advice regarding potential projects, operations and use of Port Authority land
  • Develop and deliver sustainability planning and sustainability initiatives and promote these actions internally and externally
  • Identifying potential risks and threats to Port Authority’s activities and strategic objectives and develop actions to mitigate risks.

About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • 5 – 10 years of practical experience across environmental planning, environmental assessments, environmental management and project management
  • Excellent communication skills which enable you to be highly engaging, persuasive and to establish and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment as well as being comfortable working autonomously.
