The Opportunity

WSP is at the forefront of helping our clients protect and restore our natural resources and ecosystems, in compliance with legislation, regulations and policies.

We’re looking for a passionate Senior Ecologist to join our well-established national team of ecological experts.

The location for this role is flexible; we will consider Melbourne, regional Victoria and/or home office.

You will provide ecological assessments and advice related to infrastructure project approvals and natural resource management. This will include initial constraint and option assessment, rehabilitation monitoring, project approval and permitting, targeted threatened species surveys, biodiversity surveys, impact and offset assessments and ecological management plans.

You will also:

  • Prepare environmental reports, proposals and tenders
  • Plan and oversee the smooth running of projects with a range of complexity and scale
  • Build strong relationships with clients and contribute to new business development opportunities
  • Mentor a couple of junior staff and assist with their learning and professional growth

What we'll love about you

You have studied an Environmental or Natural Science discipline such as ecology, botany or biology, you're a team player and you're likely to have previous consulting/advisory experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting.

You will also bring the following experience and attributes: 

  • Significant field experience such as flora and/or fauna surveys, ecological monitoring, plant species and threatened ecological community identification, ecological data collection and analysis, managing project teams, etc.
  • Practical experience with bushland management, ecological restoration and input into sustainable ecological design principles for pragmatic outcomes
  • Accredited native vegetation assessor with DELWP’s Vegetation Quality Assessment Competency Check (VQACC)
  • Some experience in GIS, field mapping and developing and managing spatial datasets
  • Knowledge of VIC and Commonwealth biodiversity regulatory frameworks and policy
  • Have a passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity and natural resources management
