What will you be doing? 

The Senior Climate Change Advisor will focus on helping Sydney Water in anticipating, preparing for, and adapting to the impacts of a changing climate alongside other urban water management challenges.

You will:

  • Provide leadership and support to the organisation and project teams across elements of infrastructure and system resilience, with specific regard to climate change adaptation.
  • Lead the change management and capability uplift, to improve the way Sydney Water plans and manages the impacts of climate change, ensuring the organisation is prepared for the future.
  • Coordinate and contribute to initiatives as part of the broader work of the Sustainability & Climate Change Adaptation Team, including sustainability disclosures and reporting.
  • Continually improve organisational alignment with State and Federal policies and strategies, such as NSW Climate Risk Ready Guide, and integration into frameworks and assurance processes
  • Participate in external working groups, industry associations and have a commitment to ongoing professional development in climate change adaptation practices

Who are we looking for? 

You should have in-depth knowledge of climate related policies and practices and knowledge of how to apply these from an organisational perspective. You must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, and ideally have demonstrated experience working in climate change adaptation or climate risk management, with an understanding of how climate change could impact on Sydney Water’s services and assets.  

You must be outcome-focused with strong stakeholder engagement skills. You will have a keen interest in improving organisational resilience and meeting the challenges of climate change. 

You will have:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Environmental Science, Business) or experience and ability deemed equivalent.
  • At least 10 years professional experience in climate change adaptation, infrastructure systems thinking or a related risk management field. 
  • Experience in climate change readiness and/or system interdependency analysis; with demonstrated skills in synthesis, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Sound knowledge of trends in climate change adaptation policy and disclosure requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading work across functional areas within a large organisation to drive improved outcomes, including using process improvement techniques (e.g. Six Sigma), change management plans and collaborative approaches to problem solving.
  • Experience in using integrated management systems (e.g. ISO 14001 Environment, 31000 Risk) and/or understanding of climate risk integration with asset management (ISO 55000) and reporting
