About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Restoration Ecologist to be involved in ecological restoration projects, including implementation of NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act Stewardship Agreements.

The role will involve the project management (including writing proposals, budget / sub-contractor management and client liaison) of restoration ecology and on-ground bush regeneration / revegetation works and the preparation of various reports relevant to restoration ecology and land management, such as weed and vegetation management plans.

We have several implementation project sites across Western Sydney and the Illawarra so you will need to be able to travel to and operate in those areas.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have a passion for restoring native ecosystems as well as the following:

Essential:

  • A degree in Environmental Science or related discipline or substantial experience in lieu of higher graduate qualification
  • Experience in preparing weed / vegetation management plans, including costings
  • Experience in managing the implementation of weed / vegetation management plans, including budget management
  • Ability to prepare proposals and manage projects, including development of detailed budgets and schedules
  • Practical knowledge in a range of restoration techniques (e.g. bush regeneration, revegetation, erosion control, feral animal control etc)
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Current driver’s licence.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in bush regeneration, especially as a team leader / supervisor
  • Experience in the nursery industry, especially native and/or wholesale production
  • Experience with native seed (collection, propagation or direct seeding)
  • Experience in ecological survey design, monitoring and assessment
  • GIS skills or a demonstrated understanding of spatial data analysis and application in ecology
  • A working knowledge of relevant NSW and Federal legislation.

We will offer you:

We will discuss remuneration with you in person. In the meantime, you will be comforted to know we are Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) compliant, reviewing equality of pay across each role. We promote flexible and hybrid working options for all positions, whether is a permanent full-time position (38-hour week) or a part-time position (pick a number).

You can view our extensive company benefits on our careers page and be encouraged to know that we have a progressive, non-gendered, 12 weeks paid parental leave policy. Oh, and let’s not forget the birthday leave benefit (that’s right, you get an extra day off on your birthday!).
