What a year it has been for the Umwelt Environmental & Social Consultants team.

None more so than for the Melbourne office, which was established in 2021.

Since inception, the team has grown to 15 people across environmental planning/approvals, heritage, GIS and social sustainability. The team which has been assembled under the leadership of David Knight, is simply, exceptional.

Continuing it's growth strategy in to 2023, I am now exclusively hiring for key ecology appointments, to join the office (with a great, new workspace) on a permanent basis.

This is a very pivotal role in both the Victorian and national context.

Principal Ecologist.

This pivotal role will be responsible for developing and leading the ecology function. You will be responsible for developing an ecology team strategy, with the necessary support from the wider team - including long-serving senior management already in place.

You will play a key role in positioning the team for commercial opportunities, for both standalone ecology projects and broader environmental work.

You'll be responsible for staff management, mentoring and the delivery of key projects, (acting as Project Director), from inception to completion.

Do you want to pursue the kind of work that truly interests you and are you hamstrung in this regard, in your current role?

Are you perhaps seeking a role with greater leadership?

Who are Umwelt?

Umwelt is an employee - owned, environmental and social sustainability services consultancy, that has been operating for over 25 years. They provide key services across environmental planning, environmental management, heritage, ecology and other specialist disciplines.

They are a fully-fledged national business, operating from 8 offices, with over 240 employees.

The ecology function is one of the largest, most stable ecology/biodiversity teams in Australia, standing at approximately 80 people or, almost a third of the entire company FTE.

For keen ecologists, it is a fantastic place to work.

Why?

You're working with a large group of ecologists, with an exceptional level of depth of skills/knowledge. You're working with people who share your interests and have similar values. Your work is understood and critically, valued.

You're working for a business that has a repuation for delivering high-quality, scientifically robust work for its clients.

Not only that, but you can explore and deliver the kind of ecological projects that are professionally important to you.

Why Umwelt is different?

- Flexibility. True flexibility based on individuals' needs.

- Incredible benefits, including 'MeDay'. The Umwelt wellbeing initiative that offers staff an additional day of paid leave per month

- Employee ownership potential via the ESP.

- Scope for impact, not just for your own career but also on the wider business.

- True commitment to training and development.

These are just a few to mention and we would need quite a bit longer for me to fill you in on the rest.

But what really sets Umwelt apart, are the people. The unanimous ethos and value-set.

Please contact me for an informal, confidential chat to find out more.

Due to Survey season, we recognise and anticipate that for interested parties, there may be a delay in responding. This is absolutely fine.
