Ecologist – Herpetologist

Due to a strong work outlook and some exciting projects on the horizon, we are seeking an ecologist with specialist skills in herpetology to join our team of consultants in Auckland.

This position will see you joining our established and passionate team of ecologists, who excel at what they do. As an ecologist specialising in herpetology, you’ll be working collaboratively with our clients, stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary project teams on a broad range of challenging and rewarding projects to ensure that great ecological outcomes are achieved. This role will have a mix of office-based responsibilities and field work; time away from the local office will be required, especially over the summer months.

We are looking for ecologists who have more than 1 year of professional experience, that enjoy working in a close-knit team, have a great reputation, that uphold ethics and professional standards, along with the following skills and attributes:

• Post-graduate qualifications in Ecology, or a closely related biological sciences field, ideally with a herpetology focus.
• Specialist skills in herpetology, with experience handling a variety of lizard and/or frog species and associated survey methods.
• Experience in bat surveying, bird surveys, bird call analysis, and/or vegetation assessments is desirable, but not required.
• A range of experience that demonstrates proficiency in ecology methodologies, data collection, management, and analysis.
• Strong fieldwork skills and experience, including experience working in remote, back country sites and in difficult terrain and conditions.
• The ability to be thorough with assessments and write clear technical reports.  
• Excellent communication skills to enable you to work and liaise with colleagues, external consultants, contractors, landowners, and clients.
• The ability to effectively prioritise, allocate and manage time and resources, working as part of a team, as well as independently when required.
• A current and full New Zealand drivers’ licence.
