About the role

The Conservation Program Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring environmental stewardship and conservation of land with important natural values for future generations.

As a Conservation Program Officer you will:

  • Contribute to the management of the overall Private Land Conservation Program, including initiatives to contemporise our approach.
  • Visit beautiful properties around Tasmania and undertake site assessments to establish new conservation covenants.
  • Engage with and provide advice on management of nature values to a diverse range of conservation covenant landowners across the state.
  • Use your ecology and basic mapping skills to inform the preparation of conservation covenant documents.

The positions can be based in Hobart, Launceston or Devonport.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Field experience in terrestrial ecology and in-depth knowledge of land management practices.
  • Strong technological skills and proven ability to use GIS based planning systems and produce field and property maps.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to consult, negotiate, and manage conflict.
  • Tertiary qualifications in ecology, natural sciences or environmental management.
  • A current driver’s licence.
