As an environmental practitioner it is necessary to have a broad skill set across a range of disciplines. One of these is working with Indigenous peoples and considering how cultural heritage and Native Title applies to environmental practice.
This webinar provides an introduction to Indigenous cultural heritage and Native Title, and most importantly engagement with Traditional Owners, as part of environmental practice. It is designed to provide a first step for practitioners in understanding the significance of Indigenous engagement as part of environmental practice.
The webinar will look at the fundamentals:
Julie Keane has over 30 years’ experience working in the environment profession. She holds qualifications in urban and regional planning, environmental law and Indigenous policy and is a Certified Environmental Practitioner (Impact Assessment Specialist).
As a consultant she focused on environmental impact assessment for major infrastructure projects. She has led engagement with Traditional Owners for development of numerous cultural heritage assessments, cultural heritage management plans and Indigenous land use agreements.
In her current role as Indigenous Program Manager, at North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, she is responsible for the engagement with Traditional Owners and implementation of several CHMPs and ILUA.
Julie is also a member of the EIANZ Impact Assessment Specialist Environment Advisory Committee and the Indigenous Engagement Working Group.
This webinar will run off Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and will be recorded. A link to the recording will be sent to all registered delegates in the days post the event.
