The recent developments in the waste management and resource recovery space have prompted government tooperate under novel frameworks, prominently, Circular Economy framework. In an effort to better manage municipal waste, councils have been redefining their processes to alignwith circular economy principles. The Victorian Division of EIANZ, Student and Early Career Committee would like to unravel what happens to the waste after it’s put on the curb for collection by coordinating a trip toYarra City waste facility in Clifton Hill. Senior Circular EconomyAdvisor, Lisa Coffa, will present how the council is changing their approach to waste management, what they have introduced so far and will also cover how her work fits under the Circular Economy framework.

The tour centres around the topic of innovation, sustainability and resource recovery, providing members with an opportunity to learn more about circular economy, how waste management is changing and new career pathways.

The event will begin at Clifton Hill Waste Facility and will consist of a walk through the facility and an on-the-spot presentation by Lisa Coffa. Q&A will be answered as the tour takes place.

Meet the speaker | Lisa Coffa

Lisa is the Senior Circular Economy Advisor at the City of Yarra.She is highly skilled in the field of sustainability with over 25 years' experience. Lisa began her career in sustainable land management, moving to water conservation, community education / engagement and finally landed on her real passion, waste minimisation and resource recovery management. Early on her focus was on the development if strategic approaches for waste minimisation, community engagement and liaising with the community, business and government stakeholders across Yarra City Council. She has a particular focus on waste avoidance and advocating for the creation of a circular economy across Council and Government Agencies. She is regularly sought by both Council and the government sector to advocate and influence for this circular approach to waste management.
