Join us for an evening event focused on environmental law in Queensland. This event will include a formal presentation by Dr Chris McGrath, a Brisbane based environmental barrister and academic specialising in planning and environmental law within the State.

Chris will provide a roadmap to environmental law in Queensland and will detail the core skills for statutory interpretation by environmental professionals. The Planning Act 2016 (Planning Act) and the Vegetation Management Act 1999 (VM Act) will be the focus of this event.

This event is aimed at environmental professionals at any stage of their career, with particular focus on students and early career professionals who are, or are interested in pursuing a career in environmental consulting.
Networking and light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the formal presentation, hosted by the student and early careers committee as part of the SEQ EIANZ division.

Dr Chris McGrath | The Bar Association of Queensland

Chris is an accomplished legal expert with over 25 years of experience in international, climate and environmental law. He has led and co-led diverse teams of lawyers and scientific experts in complex negotiations, litigation, and advisory roles, working with government, private sector, and NGO clients. As a leading researcher in Australian environmental law, he has a proven ability to shape policy and legal frameworks. He is an award-winning educator, recognised for his engaging teaching style and commitment to mentoring the next generation of legal and environmental professionals.
