Nick Fewster and Pema Dorji will outline the City of Darwin’s commitment to delivering best practice and sustainable infrastructure through its management of Shoal Bay, as well as contributing to environmental protection and the Territory’s circular economy.
Shoal Bay is the home of waste management and recycling for Greater Darwin, receiving more than 180,000 tonnes of waste a year and operating in a unique tropical environment. It is the only licensed landfill in the Greater Darwin Area and includes a waste transfer station, recycling facility and resale shop, a garden organics waste processing facility and renewable energy facility.
Shoal Bay has a forecast operational life until 2050 and is supported by an industry-leading infrastructure program to protect the environment and maximise its life span. The facility was recognised with an honourable mention at the 2023 National Awards for Local Government in the Waste Management category.
This event will run off Australian Central Standard Time (ACST).
