EIANZ's NT Division invites you to join them for the first event in the Northern Territory Regulatory Series. This event will focus on getting ready for onshore petroleum development through regulatory reforms and will be run as a hybrid event. For those coming in-person it will be held at the Theatrette, Museum an Art Gallery of the NT and online via Zoom.
The Northern Territory Government is committed to accelerating gas-related development, from exploration and appraisal stages to a production potential of up to 6000TJ per day in the Beetaloo alone. To support this expansion, the government is progressing targeted petroleum regulatory reform. The reforms streamline approval processes and apply an outcomes-focused, risk-based framework. This approach is designed to improve certainty for industry and investors while maintaining efficient, effective, and proportionate regulatory oversight. The onshore petroleum environment regulatory reforms are about streamlining approvals, not lowering standards. They clarify information requirements, remove duplication and introduce consistent environmental outcomes and performance standards across the onshore petroleum industry. Key changes include amendments to the Petroleum (Environment) Regulations 2016 and the introduction of a new Environment Code of Practice.
The Petroleum Regulation team from Department of Lands Planning and Environment (DLPE) will provide an overview of these reforms.
This presentation will be available both in-person at the Theatrette, Museum and Art Gallery of the NT, and online for those unable to attend in Darwin. The event will run on Australian Central Standard Time (ACST).
