The NT Division of EIANZ and our co-hosts the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) invite you to attend our 2025 end of year networking event!
Please join us at the Museum and Art Gallery NT Theatrette to hear from our guest speakers, Ian Harvey from the Rum Jungle Mine Rehabilitation Team and Kylie Welch from renewable energy developer, SunCable.
Following the speakers we welcome you to join us for celebratory drinks just across the road at the Ski Club!
Our end of year celebration is open to everyone – members and newcomers alike.
Meet the speakers
Ian Harvey | Mine Closure and Water Strategy Manager - Rum Jungle Mine Rehabilitation Team
Ian will provide an update on the progress of rehabilitating the former Rum Jungle uranium mine site, located 105 km south of Darwin. Mining activities at the site between 1954 and 1971 led to significant environmental impacts primarily caused by acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD), resulting in pollution of the East Branch of the Finniss River. The Rehabilitation Plan for the site was approved under the NT Environment Protection Act 219 and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 in 2023 and is being implemented by the NT Government. Ian will provide some detail on the contaminated soil and water management strategy component of the rehabilitation.
Kylie Welch | Development Manager - SunCable
Kylie will present an overview of SunCable's new large-scale solar farm proposal in the Barkly region, the Muckaty Solar Precinct. Since 2020, SunCable has been progressing planning and approvals for the Australia-Asia PowerLink Project, an ambitious project that will harness solar energy from the world-class resource in the Barkly region for supply to industrial customers in Darwin and Singapore. Environmental approvals were secured for the foundation components of the project in 2024, including a 12,000ha solar generation site on Powell Creek Station in the Barkly region. To further underpin investment in the AAPowerLink Project, SunCable is proposing an additional generation site, the Muckaty Solar Precinct, that will position the company to respond to forecast and emerging growth in renewable energy demand. Referrals for the Muckaty Solar Precinct have been submitted under the NT Environment Protection Act 2019 and EPBC Act.
