Does Australia need a Commonwealth Environmental Protection Agency? Could a Federal agency be effective in the Australian context?

Australia had a Commonwealth environmental protection agency in the period 1994-1998 led by Barry Carbon. In this panel discussion, leading environmental professionals across Australia will provide their thoughts and insights on the current calls for a similar agency and what changes may be required for Australia to move towards implementing an effective federal environmental protection agency.

This event will discuss:

  • To debate a timely topic having regard to the upcoming federal government election and the opportunity for EIANZ to provide professional guidance to any incoming Government.
  • To obtain a better appreciation of the relative roles of the Commonwealth, State and local governments in managing the environment.
  • To discuss how this solution or how potential alternative solutions may confront identified challenges.
  • To discuss a diverse range of experienced environmental professionals stand on the topic and the key challenges and opportunities.
