Membership categories

There are four main types of membership: Full, Fellow, Associate and Student.

Full Member

Full membership to the Institute is open to those who have:

  • Completed a degree, higher degree or graduate diploma and have at least two years’ experience in an area of environmental practice, or
  • At least five years’ experience in an area of environmental practice.

Members have voting rights, can be elected to the Board, can use MEIANZ as a post nominal and receive an online subscription to the Australasian Journal of Environmental Management.

You can also apply for full membership if you are a member of another professional association or you have expertise or achievements consistent with EIANZ’s purpose. Fellow Member

Fellow members are appointed at the invitation of the Institute President following a nomination and review process. Senior practitioners with at least 10 years’ experience in the profession and who have been an Institute member continuously for at least two years are eligible for nomination.

Fellow Members can vote and be elected to the Board, can use FEIANZ as a post nominal and the logo of the Association on personal stationery and receive an online subscription to the Australasian Journal of Environmental Management.

Associate member

Associate membership is open to anyone who:

  • Has completed a degree, higher degree or graduate diploma and has less than two years’ experience in an area of environmental practice, or
  • Provides evidence to the Board that they have an interest in an area of environmental practice but do not otherwise meet the requirements for membership, or
  • Is eligible for full membership but prefers to be an Associate.

Associate members are charged a reduced membership fee.

Associate members do not have voting rights and cannot use a post-nominal.

Student member

Student membership is open to those undertaking full-time or part-time study in a degree, higher degree or graduate diploma in an area of environmental practice.

Student members are offered a reduced membership fee and reduced rates for some Institute events, conferences, seminars and workshops. Students do not pay an application fee.

Student members do not have voting rights and cannot use a post-nominal.

Honorary membership

There are a further two categories of membership that are awarded by the Board: Honorary Fellow and Honorary Life Membership.

Honorary Fellow Member

Honorary Fellowships are awarded to those who have made an outstanding contribution to the environment profession.

Confidential nominations for Honorary Fellows are sought from the Australian Divisions and the New Zealand Chapter. Nominations are reviewed by a panel of Fellows and recommendations for appointment are made to the Board.

Honorary fellows may or may not already be members of the Institute.

An Honorary Fellow has voting rights, can use the post nominal FEIANZ and the EIANZ logo on their stationery and receive quarterly copies of the Australasian Journal of Environmental Management. Honorary fellows are not charged an annual membership fee.

Honorary Life Member

Honorary Life membership is awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the environment profession, as demonstrated through their service to the Institute. Honorary Life Membership is the highest form of distinction awarded by the Institute.

Confidential nominations for Honorary Life Members are sought through the Australian Divisions and the New Zealand Chapter. Nominations are then reviewed by the Board and appointments made.

Honorary Life Members have voting rights, can use the post nominal FEIANZ and the EIANZ logo on their stationery and receive quarterly copies of the Australasian Journal of Environmental Management. Honorary Life Members are not charged an annual membership fee.
