Join us for an insightful discussion on the implementation of South Australia’s Biodiversity Act.

The South Australian Government passed the Biodiversity Act 2025 through the Parliament in June 2025. This historic legislation consolidates and strengthens biodiversity protections across the state, ensuring better outcomes for native species, ecosystems and future generations. While the new Act has been passed, it won’t come into effect straight away. Instead, implementation will occur in stages. This webinar will provide an overview of the staged pathway to implementation, including opportunities to share your feedback during the preparation of subordinate legislation.

Meet the speaker

Brett Simes is a Principal Legislation Officer with the South Australian Department for Environment and Water (DEW), bringing over 20 years of experience in environmental policy, legislation, and biodiversity conservation. Throughout his career, Brett has played a key role in developing and implementing regulatory frameworks aimed at protecting and enhancing South Australia’s unique natural environments. He has been closely involved in the design of the Biodiversity Act, working to ensure that legislative reforms deliver practical, measurable improvements for biodiversity outcomes while supporting transparency and certainty for stakeholders. Brett is deeply committed to achieving better, more enduring outcomes for South Australia’s biodiversity. His work focuses on bridging policy intent with on-ground results, strengthening governance arrangements, and supporting effective environmental decision-making across the state.
