Webinar | DSDIP webinar on the proposed changes to the State Planning Policy

About the webinar

The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) have released the 2026 draft Queensland State Planning Policy (SPP) for consultation.

This webinar gives attendees an opportunity to understand directly from DSDIP about the main changes proposed in the SPP and related documents namely:

And the background for these changes.

Key proposed changes

The draft State Planning Policy proposes a revised framework designed to improve clarity, usability and efficiency while supporting Queensland's long-term housing, economic, environmental and infrastructure needs.

While the draft State Planning Policy retains many existing State Planning Policy outcomes, it introduces several changes to the framework’s structure and organisation:

  • six new strategic aspirations to guide planning outcomes and help balance competing state interests
  • a revised structure designed to make the State Planning Policy easier to navigate, understand and apply
  • a new Environment, Heritage and Efficient Growth state interest to support coordinated growth while protecting the environment, heritage and natural and rural landscapes
  • updated and streamlined state interests, including new policies and revised interests
  • a revised approach to natural hazards and resilience, including a greater focus on risk-based planning for natural hazards
  • proposed removal of assessment benchmarks from the State Planning Policy, and proposed to be re-located and consolidated to the Planning Regulation 2017 with other development assessment benchmarks.
