Webinar Overview

This webinar will provide students and mining professionals including engineers and geologists with an understanding of what the EIA process entails, why it is often on critical path, and what mine planners can do to help (e.g. working with EIA practitioners throughout the concept/PFS/DFS process to go forward with a project that minimises environmental impact, maximises community benefit and is economically feasible).

It will provide an overview of basic EIA principles – what EIA is, why it is necessary, and how it is undertaken. It will also provide an overview of how EIA is implemented across Australian jurisdictions.

Meet the speakers

Nathan Zeman, Principal Mining Assessment Officer

Nathan is an environmental professional with 20 years of experience, both as a regulator in the SA Government, and in environmental consultancies. His past 10 years have been with the Department for Energy and Mining undertaking the assessment of extractive, metallic, coal and uranium mines. He has also been integral to the review of regulatory processes for undertaking environmental impact assessments for mining projects in SA. Nathan is the current president of the SA Division of EIANZ.

Andrew Querzoli, Deputy Director Mining Assessment

Andrew is a Chemical Engineer with 20 years experience comprising of 7 years in consulting, 7 years working for mining operators/developers and now 6 years as a Mining Regulator. Andrew is currently the Deputy Director of Mining Assessments in South Australia with the Department for Energy and Mining where he leads a team responsible for the assessment of mining EIA for new mines in SA
