NSW | Enviro Drinks - September 2026

Enviro Drinks

Enviro Drinks is growing! With our new Mudgee location now on board, Enviro Drinks is being held across six locations. After a great turnout in June, join us for the next round in September 2026.

Enviro Drinks brings environmental practitioners together for a free, informal catch-up. It's a great opportunity to connect, network and build relationships across the industry. Held each season, it's become a NSW tradition for practitioners to grow their professional networks in a relaxed, welcoming setting. We'd love to see you there this spring, whether you're a regular or joining us for the first time.

The Spring Enviro Drinks generously sponsored by Eco Logical Australia, Lotsearch, Land Air Water Environmental Management, and Nature Advisory. They are held with partners Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA), Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association NSW (ACLCA NSW) and Hunter Environmental Institute.

Time’s shifting sands: Using earth sciences to understand an ancient archaeological site

Green Cape Lighthouse juts into the sea, a spectacular location overlooking the Far South Coast of New South Wales (NSW). During the Pleistocene, lower sea levels meant much of NSW’s present coastline was kilometres from the shore, but Green Cape’s steep coastal drop-off meant the shoreline stayed nearby. This means that, while other ancient sites are now underwater, the Green Cape area offers a rare opportunity to understand the deep past of Aboriginal communities on the Far South Coast.

Using borehole survey, sedimentological techniques, optically-stimulated luminescence dating and micromorphological analysis, we revealed a surprising story of changing environments, shifting, cliff-top sand dunes and human occupation. We dated human activities to the early Holocene (~10,000 years BP), and found a sediment record dating to the late Pleistocene (~29,000 years BP) that could contain evidence of even earlier occupation. These exciting results show how earth science techniques are helping us understand the deep human past in remote areas.

All events will be FREE to attend and will generally be informal in tone. Kindly be aware that drinks and food are not included with registration, however you're welcome to purchase them from the venue at your convenience.

We are planning on expanding the reach of Enviro Drinks in the future and would welcome any proposals to host in other regional locations. The events may also host speakers on occasion, at the discretion of local organisers in each region.

Join us at a location near you! Due to the location of these events, there will be a limit on attendees. Reserve your spot today to ensure you don't miss out.
