Vale Dr Ronnie Harding FEIANZ

Published 24 June 2022

The EIANZ is saddened to learn of the recent passing of Dr Ronnie Harding FEIANZ. Ronnie has been an active and long-standing member of the Institute and the NSW Division. She was part of the group that worked to establish the Institute and was recognised as an EIANZ Fellow in 2012 for her leading role in the environment profession.

Ronnie is considered a ‘champion of environmental education’ and had an impressive academic career at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Ronnie was instrumental in establishing the Environmental Engineering degree at the UNSW and "literally wrote the book" on the precautionary principle. Upon retirement in 2004 she undertook a range of advisory roles for public, NGO and private sector organisations and was an inaugural member of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists.

Ronnie’s passing is a very sad loss to many of our members who have benefitted from her work and mentorship, and to the environment profession that is all the better for her contribution.
