What will you be doing?

This is a great opportunity for a Senior Environmental Scientist to join a high-performing, collaborative team. You will deliver environmental planning, assessment and approvals across the breadth of our capital program. Your professional expertise will support business needs across the asset value chain (regulation, strategy, planning, design and delivery).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

• Undertake environmental planning, establish approval pathways and prepare assessments.
• Secure appropriate environmental approvals, licences and permits.
• Scope, engage and manage the application of specialist technical expertise.
• Provide risk tailored environmental advice for project teams and senior management.
• Apply innovation, continual improvement and knowledge sharing to ensure quality and gain efficiencies.

Department Overview: Sydney Water’s Engineering and Technical Support group provides technical expertise, design and engineering services to the business. The group focuses on the management and delivery of:

• modelling and asset analytics
• concept designs
• asset data management 
• specialist engineering expertise
• environment and heritage expertise
• implementation of asset information

Who are we looking for? 

You have a passion for the environment, and you enjoy working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Project Managers and regulators. You have the ability and desire to resolve environmental issues for a diversity of infrastructure projects. You are comfortable coordinating and mentoring other team members. You enjoy working with a diverse range of stakeholders and being in a team that minimises environmental impacts and enables our capital program delivery.  

You will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Environmental Management (or other relevant discipline) and at least 7 years’ experience in a relevant role
• Proven experience in environmental planning, environmental impact assessment and environmental approvals for infrastructure development projects
• Proficient identification and implementation of strategies to manage environmental issues in the planning, delivery and/or operation of large civil engineering projects
• Understanding and experience with major water or other similar infrastructure utility.
