The Team & Role
GHD’s Sydney Ecology team specialises in biodiversity impact assessment, management and offsetting. We work collaboratively with our private and public sector clients to guide effective land management decision-making and to deliver practical and appropriate project solutions.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Botanist to join our high performing team.
The role is focussed in NSW and comprises a variety of ecological professional service tasks and responsibilities including but not limited to:
Field based botanical survey work, including application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
Delivering biodiversity values and constraints assessments, impact and offset assessments and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management
Biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting for high profile major projects and preparation of Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements
Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways
Preparing proposals and technical reports for clients
Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards
Maintaining relationships with clients and regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
Assisting in training of junior staff in NSW plant species and plant community identification
About you
To be eligible for this position, you should have:
Between 5-10 years consulting experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting
Accreditation to apply the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) or suitable skills and experience to be eligible to attain accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
Demonstrated high level experience in botanical survey and vegetation management and experience in the application of the BAM
Demonstrated skills in plant species, plant community type and threatened ecological community identification
Strong knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to listed threatened matters, biodiversity assessment, offsetting and management
Ability to undertake fieldwork throughout NSW in various environments and sometimes remote locations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Well-developed interpersonal skills: a strong team player who builds rapport with both internal & external stakeholders; communicates upwards and is receptive to technical review and guidance; and mentors less experienced team members
A focus on client service excellence
The commitment to deliver high quality and technically robust project outcomes
Ability to manage simultaneous projects to tight timeframes and within budgets
Well-developed problem-solving skills, sound judgement and decisiveness
A current NSW drivers licence

GIS Skills for spatial analysis tasks
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology or related discipline
