SEQ | Writing effective reports | Brisbane venue

The workshop will be interactive and will include a mix of presentation, facilitated discussion, exercises and video clips of CSIRO leaders offering their insights and advice on several aspects of report-writing.

What are the objectives of the workshop?

  • To help participants understand the needs and context of the intended audience of a report
  • Identify the features of successful and unsuccessful reports
  • Practice the skills required to write well-structured and easy-to-read reports, including the ability to be precise, clear, concise, and interesting
  • Write an executive summary that appeal to readers
  • Produce reports that deliver on the organisation’s commitments and reputation.

Who should attend?

  • The workshop will especially benefit anyone with a report in development. This workshop will assist with planning, structuring, and writing reports and provide insights to help participants clearly communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Environmental professional, including scientists, engineers, planners, impact assessment professionals
  • Officers within local, State and Federal government
  • Academics and students.

Participants will be expected to bring with them a report, or results pertaining to a report, that they will work on during the exercises. This will ensure relevant practice in the topics presented and provide an opportunity for immediate feedback from the facilitator and co-participants. Exercises will focus on understanding the needs of readers and users, the purpose of the report, and how to create a compelling message in plain English that achieves the desired outcomes for the organisation and the customer.

Participants will be provided with a course manual containing the presentations, key points in preparing a successful report and a list of additional resources.
Registration for the workshop will also include morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
