NSW | Illawarra networking event: affecting positive change in the environment industry

The EIANZ is hosting a networking event in the Illawarra where we will consider how to affect positive change while working in the environment industry.

The objectives for the night are to:

  • Connect like-minded individuals in our local area so we can help each other achieve improved environmental outcomes
  • Hear from prominent individuals with a wealth of experience as environmental professionals
  • Discuss our diverse and interesting careers in the environment industry
  • Leave empowered with the knowledge that we have influence and an ability to voice and promote sustainable goals.

Meet the speakers:

  • Andrew Morison | President, EIANZ NSW Division
    Andrew is passionate about supporting people, businesses and organisations to be successful whilst they delivery outcomes for the environment and our community. He has worked for a number of private businesses and government agencies over his 35-year career. Most recently he has held a number of executive, non-executive director and advisory roles in private businesses that specialise across a range of environmental, heritage and earth sciences. Andrew has led and advised businesses to deliver strategic focus as well as cultural, operational and performance improvements. He has also delivered and supported leadership development and has run a variety of staff development and mentoring programs. Andrew will discuss the aims & objectives of the EIANZ and provide insights from a 35-year career in the environment industry.
  • Robyn Johnson | Director Blend ESQ & creator of podcast ‘Wollongong, Let’s Get Salty’

    Robyn’s early career as an Environmental Scientist fuelled her interest in fusing scientific advances and management systems to effect better outcomes for industry and community. Throughout her career she has demonstrated a desire to inspire teams, leaders and organisations to improve, innovate and succeed, culminating in founding specialist Illawarra based Environment, Health and Safety and Quality Consultancy, Blend ESQ in 2019.

    Her advocacy for industry, environment and community has seen her creative side shine, in the establishment of a brains trust of positive stories, through the ‘Wollongong, Let’s Get Salty’ podcast, energising the region to connect with nature and up its sustainability game. Robyn will share ideas on how to stay abreast of new and upcoming scientific developments and industry approaches that are creating and delivering positive environmental change.

  • Michelle Dawson | Ecologist
    Michelle in an ecologist who has worked across university, consultancy and government sectors. She has maintained a fascination with our natural environment and the role that we play in shaping it. She currently works in supporting climate change adaptation – the climate is changing which brings risks and opportunities. Her current work supports people working in restoration and threatened species recovery to understand how to adapt to our changing climate and incorporate this understanding into environmental management. She also partners with Aboriginal people to bring cultural knowledge into our approaches to environmental management. Michelle will share her experiences of shifting from research to consultancy and then government and how to maintain passion and continue to deliver environmental outcomes.
  • Zoe Wood | EIANZ NSW Committee Member and Principal Environmental Scientist with Stantec
    Zoe is an environmental practitioner who developed her passion for the environment by spending plenty of time outdoors. Currently working as a Principal Environmental Scientist with Stantec, Zoe leads a range of environmental impact assessments on complex infrastructure projects. She has a keen interest in water resource and catchment management and securing reliable water supplies. Zoe will host the event and be available to discuss opportunities for ongoing involvement with the EIANZ for those interested.
