June 2006 - Perfect Match - Uniting Community Consultation and Impact Assessment

The EIANZ and IAP2 held a 1 day conference exploring the practices of impact assessment and community consultation. This conference was the first of its kind and provided practitioners from both fields the opportunity to hear industry experts through keynote presentations, case studies and workshops.

Identifying the role and benefits of community involvement in impact assessment

Understanding the community perspective

Identifying what works and what doesn’t

Identifying the constraints, opportunities and tradeoffs, how the two processes interact

Exploring specialist areas of impact assessment and community involvement

Overviewing current consultation and impact assessment processes, methods, legislation and guidelines

Seeking out the government’s role in the two processes?

Assessing the risk and value for money, how does the client benefit and what does the community get?

Identifying key actions for the improvement of impact assessment and community involvement practice
This event concluded with a with “the 20 question challenge” where participants had the opportunity to give their opinions on key issues and see the immediate responses via KEEpad technology.
