Lisa Corbyn PSM HFEIANZ

Lisa Corbyn is a highly respected senior environmental practitioner. She is held in high esteem by Governments of all political persuasions, as well as public sector colleagues; and has led professionals working in the environment sector in the NSW public service for many years.

Lisa Corbyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, a Masters in Public Administration – Natural Resource Management and undertook a fellowship at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University focusing on environmental economics.

Her varied career has included working as a senior manager in both the public and private sectors in Australia. Prior to moving to Australia she worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency, primarily in its water programs.

Lisa Corbyn was CEO of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Director General of the NSW Environment Protection Authority and Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water from 2000 to 2012. She was also a Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of the Murray Darling Basin Commission from 2000 to 2008. She was the inaugural Chair of the statutory Independent Expert Scientific Committee (IESC) on Coal Seam Gas and Large Coal Mining Development established by the Commonwealth and 4 State Governments. This committee provides scientific advice to decision makers on the impact that coal seam gas and large coal mining development may have on Australia’s water resources.

Lisa Corbyn was awarded a Public Service Medal for her outstanding public service to environmental protection and policy reform, and natural resource management, in New South Wales in the Australia Day 2016 Honours List.

In her capacity as a senior public servant in the environment sector, and as a member of EIANZ, she provided significant support for the work of the Institute. Her presence at events provided leadership and a role model for advancing the standing of professional environmental practitioners in the community.

Lisa Corbyn was awarded Honorary Fellow membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand in 2014.
