West Head Aboriginal Explorer Tour & Cruise

A land and water based tour of Ku-ring-gai National Park's West Head and Pittwater areas with Sydney Outback Tours (www.sydneyoutback.com.au) and Aboriginal Guide, Les McCloud to:

  • Experience the rich Aboriginal Heritage of the area via the magnificent engraving sites that can be seen on land and by water.
  • Experience the magnificence of the Cowan Waters, West Head, Lion Island and Pittwater land and waterscapes aboard MV Sydney Outback
  • Find out about the many issues faced by NPWS staff in managing and protecting this magnificent area
  • Find out about he Second World War heritage of West Head.
  • Morning / afternoon teas and bush tucker lunch included.

Option for self-drive for land based component or travel in the tour bus.

Cost: $60 Adult / $30 Child (6-15 years) / $10 Child (<6 years).

National Park entry charge of $11.00 per vehicle unless the vehicle has a National Park's pass.

Meeting time: 8.30-8.45 am (for 9.00 am start)

Meeting place: Akuna Bay (d’Albora) Marina. Sydney Outback Tours boat is at the end of the first Marina arm and can be easily seen from the car park.

Ample parking available at the Marina car park.

9.00 am - 3 hour cruise around Cowan Waters (inc. Smiths Creek art site) and up to West head and Lion Island and back - morning tea will be served on board.

12.00 pm (approx) - lunch at the Akuna Bay Marina

1.00 pm (approx) - depart Akuna Bay Marina for Elvina Aboriginal Engraving site

2.30 pm (approx) - West Head Lookout where we will get a 10-15 minute talk regarding the WW2 history at West Head from Jack "Bluey" Mercer who was involved in the original operation of the West Head forts & their recent restoration.

From 3.30 pm (approx) there is an option for participants to either head home or, if sufficient interest, to visit the Basin Trail Aboriginal engravings site.
