SEQ | Plant identification – Subtropical rainforest plants in Brisbane

SEQ Division of EIANZ invites you to join them on a practical field trip where they will have the opportunity to review and identify subtropical rainforest plants in the Moggill Conservation Park.

Participants will be provided with an introduction on how to:

  • Identify the rainforest trees, shrubs and vines of Australian subtropical rainforest.
  • Use the following field guide:
    • Rainforest Trees and Shrubs (Gwen Harden, Bill McDonald & John Williams), commonly referred to as the “red book”, and,
    • Rainforest Climbing Plants (Gwen Harden, Bill McDonald & John Williams) commonly referred to as the “green book”.

The event will be held at Moggill Conservation Park. Participants will be required to have their own transport to and from site.

Participants are required to bring the following: food & water, appropriate field clothing (long pants and sleeves, wide-brim hat, enclosed shoes, etc.), sun protection, notebook. If you have your own copies of the “red book” and/or “green book”, it is recommended that you bring these along. Alternatively, a mobile app is now available.

Meet the speaker

Mike Olsen is a leading field botanist with decades of experience learning from Indigenous people and other learned mentors. Mike uses his extensive field knowledge to offer field-based workshops to share his passion with other like-minded people of all backgrounds. His courses are unique as they emphasise the development of field knowledge and skills, rather than pure technical learning. In this course, learn about land zones and vegetation of the southern coastal parts of south-east Queensland.

The content of the workshop will be delivered through field-based observations and discussions. Places are limited to a maximum of 20 participants so register now to avoid disappointment!
