SEQ | Land zones of Queensland - field based workshop on the Sunshine Coast

SEQ Division of EIANZ invites you to join them on a practical field trip, which will give delegates a foundational understanding of how to identify the land zones of Queensland on Sunday 21 April 2024.

Participants will be provided with an introduction to:

  • Land zones of the region and associated flora, particularly those in the southern coastal parts of south east Queensland.
  • Close examination of locally present land zones.
  • Rare and threatened flora of the local area (if time allows).

The content of the workshop will be delivered through field-based observations and discussions.

Meet the speaker

Mike Olsen is a leading field botanist with decades of experience learning from Indigenous people and other learned mentors. Mike uses his extensive field knowledge to offer field-based workshops to share his passion with other like-minded people of all backgrounds. His courses are unique as they emphasise the development of field knowledge and skills, rather than pure technical learning. In this course, learn about land zones and vegetation of the southern coastal parts of south-east Queensland.

The event will be held at various field locations, starting at Weyba Creek, ends at Mt Tinbeerwah. Participants will be required to have their own transport to, from and between sites. Carpooling is highly recommended if possible, as participants will need to drive to various locations on the day. Participants are required to bring the following:

  • Food and water
  • Appropriate field clothing (long pants and sleeves, wide-brim hat, enclosed shoes, etc)
  • Sun protection
  • Notebook and pen.

A copy of Mike’s The Essential Field Guide to the Land Zones of the Southeast Queensland Bioregion field booklet will be provided to all attending participants.

Places are limited to a maximum of 20 participants so register now to avoid disappointment!
