Welcome to this week's Institute Insider
It’s National NAIDOC Week in Australia and the theme ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’ highlights the importance of a united effort towards systematic change. As an association for environmental practitioners, we recognise the critical importance of First Nations knowledge in environmental best practice. Our journey of engagement and reconciliation is ongoing – from the changes to our Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct in 2021, to our recent Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) launched in June. The Institute’s Indigenous Engagement Working Group and RAP Implementation Working Group play a key role in driving these changes and they are seeking an additional Indigenous EIANZ member to join them in their work. See below for further information.
There are great NAIDOC Week events taking place around Australia including walks, workshops, exhibitions, and social gatherings. The Institute also has useful resources and a practice guidance note to help members incorporate and promote Indigenous knowledge, values, and rights in their work.
At the Institute, today is the deadline for submitting an abstract for the EIANZ 2022 Annual Conference. It’s a great opportunity to share your ideas as we examine what is ‘Shaping the future of the environment profession’. Registrations are now open for the New Zealand Chapter’s Biodiversity Symposium and the National Biodiversity Offsets Conference 2.0 is just over two weeks away.
For our impact assessment practitioners, we’re still inviting abstracts for the upcoming Impact Assessment Symposium and the CEnvP Scheme is inviting expressions of interest for their soon to be launched Social Impact Assessment specialist certification.
The Institute Insider is a chance for us to connect with members each week and share relevant news and opportunities. If you have feedback or something you think we should share, please feel free to email us at office@eianz.org. We'd love to hear from you!
Stay safe, stay connected.
