The accreditation process is begins with a rigorous assessment of the environmental studies programs/courses in environmental science, environmental management or environmental sustainability submitted for accreditation by the host institution.

Once accredited, the programs/courses will be subject to annual reporting requirements during a possible five year term of accreditation. In the final year of accreditation, the host institution will be invited to submit the accredited programs/courses for re-accreditation.

The accreditation process is outlined below:

• Application | An application will be responded to by inviting the host institution to prepare and submit an Accreditation Submission
• Accrediation Submission | The host institution prepares an Accreditation Submission in accordance with the guidance contained in the Qualifications Accreditation Scheme Manual for the programs/courses for which accreditation is sought
• Visiting Panel | The Accreditation Board appoints a Visiting Panel to review the Accreditation Submission. The host institution arranges for the Visiting Panel to visit the institution and meet with staff and students to review the teaching of the programs/courses for which accreditation is sought.
• Accreditation decision | The Visiting Panel prepares its report and recommendations on the programs/courses and submits it to the Accreditation Board for decision.
• Annual maintenance | The host institution provides an annual report on the performance of the environmental studies program and the delivery of the accredited programs/courses to the Accreditation Board.
• Re-accreditation | The Accreditation Board invites the host institution of accredited programs/courses to apply for re-accreditation.
