Patrice Brown is a very special person to those she has influenced as an environmental professional, she has been an inspiration in how she has found different and better ways to ensure environmental professionals and what they do are valued. Patrice has been an active conduit between the environmental profession, agriculture, mining and industry to foster sustainable development.
She has played an active part in the almost forgotten movement of grossly changing old-school attitudes that once existed in industry and major projects, to what practitioners in the field take for granted today, in areas of environmental awareness, protection and conservation, and social and community licence to operate. Patrice has done the hard yards, in many ways thankless, paving the way for the profession’s raised profile, recognition, appreciated value and importance.
Patrice has been recognised as an industry thought leader, is an active advocate for protecting environmental and cultural values and has been bestowed a number of awards for her achievements. She has developed strong, trusted relationships with Indigenous groups throughout Cape York, western and central Queensland and has provided pro-bono on-country land management training and business development advice to several groups during her career.
We acknowledge and value the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples in the protection and management of environmental values through their involvement in decisions and processes, and the application of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
