John Zillman is a Senior Adviser Emeritus at the Bureau of Meteorology. He was Commonwealth Director of Meteorology from 1978 to 2003 and President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) from 1995 to 2003. He was President of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) from 2003 to 2006, of the National Academies Forum(NAF) in 2005-06 and of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) in 2005.
From 1994 to 2004, he served as Principal Delegate of Australia to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) and he chaired the international Steering Committee for the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) from 2006 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013 he was a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne and chaired the Advisory Board for the Victorian Centre for Climate Change Adaptation Research (VCCCAR).
