The Opportunity
You will play a key role in managing some of the State’s most high profile major development projects that will shape the future of Sydney and NSW.

The Social and Other Infrastructure Assessments teams require Senior Planning Officers to join our dynamic team. The teams handle a broad portfolio of State significant development assessment work, development of a range of social projects in Sydney and across NSW. These include work within the State’s Health, Education and University Precincts.  The Teams’ new projects also include major developments associated with Sydney Football Stadium, Corrections Facilities and the delivery of private and State’s Government health and education facilitates including vertical schools and universities. 

The work of the Social and Other Infrastructure Assessments teams contributes to the supply of education, health services and employment generation and broader strategic infrastructure, economic and growth objectives of the NSW Government.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planning Officer to join the Social and Other Infrastructure Assessments teams within the Department of Planning & Environment.

 

The Role & Candidate
The Senior Planning Officer is responsible for high quality, effective and timely assessment of the merits of State significant projects to meet statutory obligations and Government policy and fulfil Government goals for a more robust and efficient state planning system that achieves economic and growth objectives and is balanced with the needs of the community and the environment.

The Senior Planning Officer is the key point for managing the assessment of complex State significant projects and providing advice and support to key internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of development assessment issues. There will also be a strong responsibility for negotiation with applicants, councils and government agencies to resolve issues and achieve practical solutions and good outcomes for the State’s most high-profile and contentious projects.

• A highly motivated and skilled urban planning professional with great communication (oral and written), stakeholder management and problem-solving skills
• A passion for delivering great outcomes for major development projects
• Ability to work as part of a team
• A focus on continual improvement and professional development, and are also key to success in this collaborative, innovative and challenging role.

Essential requirements
• Degree in urban and regional planning or other relevant discipline
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and processes
• High level experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiation and project management
• Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s Licence
