Planning / Environmental Assessment Officer – PO1B

Our Department faces the incredible task of planning and designing projects in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment across Sydney and Regional NSW. 

 

Purpose of the role: -

Are you an experienced planner, environmental scientists, engineer, designer, architecture, environmental management or other have a relevant discipline looking to progress your career in a flexible dynamic and rewarding role based in the Geographic heart of City.

 

If you have experience in:

  • Environmental impact assessments, planning proposals, strategic planning, environmental management, system management 
  • Evaluate and manage the State’s, high-profile and contentious development applications, (such as Barangaroo, Sydney Metro, Inland rail, cultural events such as Splendour in the Grass) and major planning proposals such as Parramatta CBD and City of Sydney CBD strategies proposals
  • Managing key projects, the team and support internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of planning and policy issues
  • Assist in resolving complex strategic planning issues across Metropolitan and Regional NSW
  • Responsible for coordination and negotiation across state agencies, councils, various other stakeholders and community

 

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant degree in urban planning, environmental scientists, engineering, design, architecture, environmental management or other relevant discipline
  • Applied knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and processes
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiation and project management
  • Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s Licence

 

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate:

  • With 4 to 5 years’ experience
  • A strong communication and negotiation skills
  • The ability to critically analyse and solve problems on assessment related matters.
  • Experience working with the major projects assessment system would be beneficial.
  • Translate complex technical information into easy to read plain English reports and correspondence.
  • Deliver competing assessments in a challenging and dynamic environment
  • Manage the different and competing interests of various external agencies, stakeholder and community expectations to maintain the integrity of the Government’s planning program.

 

This Role will cover (Key Sites & Industry Assessments, Priority Projects & Resources Assessments and Regions Sydney East and West)
