Ecology and Heritage Partners Pty Ltd is an established consultancy providing services in Botany, Zoology, and Cultural Heritage.  With a highly experienced team of consultants the Company works throughout Australia with offices situated in Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Canberra.  This enables us to service a wide range of clients, including Government agencies and corporate businesses, to encompass a wide range of projects within sectors and industries including, renewable energy, transport infrastructure, natural resources, and urban/regional development to name a few.  

Due to a sustained increase in workload, we are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic botanical consultant who wishes to develop and contribute their experience and skills to provide sustainable and innovative environmental solutions to complex development and environmental management problems.

This position will be based in either our Geelong or Melbourne office, to service work primarily focused in Victoria, however interstate travel may be required from time to time.  The position requires familiarity with Victoria's flora and ecosystems, a working understanding of Victoria's Guidelines for the removal, destruction or lopping of native vegetation, and other environmental legislation (e.g. EPBC Act).

The ability to communicate this information, both verbally and in technical reports, will be a key consideration in the selection process.  Skills in the design and management of detailed field investigations, and plant identification should reflect your experience and application level.   The position offers an excellent opportunity for professional development in an established, but growing business. You will also develop skills in winning new work as you build client relationships and respond to new project and client opportunities.

To be successful you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification, preferably a degree or post graduate degree in environmental science, (botany, ecology), natural resource management, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years practical experience undertaking field based botanical surveys, preferably in an ecological consulting capacity.
  • VQA accreditation
  • Knowledge of, and how to apply, environmental legislation and government policy such as the EPBC Act and Victoria's Guidelines for the removal, destruction or lopping of native vegetation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare ecological reports such as impact assessments, targeted significant species surveys, policy development, and the preparation of Conservation Management Plans.
  • An ability to manage projects and willingness to learn quickly, and a demonstrated high level of professionalism.
  • Other non-technical skills required include excellent communication skills, high level of computer literacy, and ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team.
  • An ability to develop and leverage your personal attributes and skills to contribute to winning work
  • You should be prepared to work flexible hours, including when conducting botanical field surveys, and be willing to travel to field locations throughout Australia.
  • Current manual Victorian Driver’s License and capacity to work outdoors essential.

You will also have good time management capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
