In August 2019, the Victorian Parliament passed changes to amend the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 to provide for a modern and strengthened framework for the protection of Victoria’s biodiversity. The amendments, which take effect on 1 June 2020, update and modernise the Act.

Important changes include:

  • a restatement of the “guarantee”
  • new objectives covering climate change and the rights and interest of traditional owners
  • a new duty on public authorities to have regard to biodiversity conservation objectives
  • a new national approach to listing threatened species
  • new enforcement tools
  • a new approach to designating critical habitat.

The Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) together with Ecological Consultants Association of Victoria (ECAV) are delighted to host this seminar that will explore the proposed amendment and upcoming changes in more detail, to look at what it means for business, developers and environmental professionals and the conservation of flora and fauna.
Drinks and nibbles provided.
