VIC | Site Visit - Stormwater Walk in the Royal Botanic Gardens (EIANZ members tour only)

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne have successfully reduced water consumption by more than 60% since 1994. How do the Gardens maintain their functionality whilst minimising water consumption?

This walk will discover the water conservation strategies and stormwater management of the Gardens. The tour will also cover:

  • The use of stormwater harvesting to offset mains irrigation demands in a large and water thirsty public environment
  • Monitoring of water quality and highlight of the significant improvement in key metrics including Nitrogen and Phosphorus reduction
  • Water treatment plant - visit and discuss the role of treatment / automated system for irrigation
  • Not just wetlands - the various issues attributed to managing an ornamental lake supplied by stormwater (Blue Green Algae, floating and submerged macrophytes)
  • Where to next - the use of desalinated water

This event is for EIANZ members only. Book early as there are very limited places for this event.

PPE Requirements for the site visit: Sunscreen, hat, water, closed-toe shoes.
