ANET 2018: Connecting nature, connecting people

Sunday 29 April 2018 - Wednesday 2 May 2018
RACV Goldfields Resort, 1500 Midland Hwy, Creswick VIC 3363

The 2018 Australasian Network for Ecology and Transportation (ANET) Conference, co-hosted by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand in Victoria, will explore the theme: Connecting nature, connecting people. The conference will focus on the intersection of people and linear infrastructure, specifically how both people and nature are connected along, across and between different types of infrastructure.

About ANET

ANET is a professional network dedicated to the research, design and implementation of environmentally-sensitive linear infrastructure (rail, roads and utility easements) across Australasia. ANET acts as a hub, providing links between government, industry, scientists and community groups to ensure all have access to current evidence and best practice.

ANET have held International conferences in 2009 and 2014 focussing on sharing global best practice in identifying and mitigating the ecological impacts of all types of linear infrastructure and transport, including road, rail, pipelines and utility easements.

Linear infrastructure and vehicles present what is an essentially wicked problem – we need safe and efficient transport networks to move people, goods and resources such as power, water, gas and data. However, at the same time, these networks can impose significant impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services, such as wildlife-vehicle collision with injury and loss of life to people and wildlife, habitat loss and degradation, weed invasion, and noise, light and chemical pollution.
