Eric Anderson FEIANZ

Eric Anderson was born in the UK and worked there and in the Middle East as a land surveyor. He migrated to Canada, gaining a degree in Civil Engineering from McGill University in Montreal and working in the field of municipal engineering in Canada and the US. He spent two years in Australia in the mid-1960s taking a Masters degree in Town and Country Planning from the University of Sydney. He returned to Australia in 1974 to work first for the Commonwealth Department of Urban and Regional Development and subsequently the Environment Department. On leaving the Federal public service in 1988, he worked as an environmental consultant for a number of years.

Eric Anderson has been involved with the Institute from the beginning, having been accepted as a member in January 1987 and elected as National Councillor between 1989 and 1993. In 1994, Eric was appointed inaugural editor of the Australasian Journal of Environmental Management and was responsible for guiding the publication to its first edition in July of that year. He remained editor until 2004.

Eric’s professional efforts and personal commitment as editor of the AJEM and member of the EIANZ are exemplary and in 2001, he was awarded Life Membership of the Institute, recognising his longstanding commitment to the Institute.
