As Acting Director of the South-East Assessment Branch of the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Mark is uniquely placed to discuss the EPBC referral process. Mark will give an overview of the assessment process: how referrals are assessed and what evidence is needed in order to make an assessment.

As the Manager of Major Projects at DPIPWE, Penny is responsible for co-ordinating the environmental assessments within DPIWPE for major projects in the State. Penny was responsible for the oversight and liaison of the State’s Strategic Assessment under the EPBC Act for the Midlands Water Scheme. Penny will discuss the Tasmanian experience with strategic assessments under the EPBC Act.
Catherine Murdoch
Manager Environment at Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd
At Tasmanian Irrigation, Catherine is responsible for the oversight of environmental planning and approval processes. Catherine leads the development,implementation and administration of environmental protection requirements during construction and operations. Catherine will provide an overview of the EPBC referral preparation process employed by Tasmanian Irrigation when assessing major infrastructure projects. She will also discuss how TI manages environmental compliance conditions during construction and operation of irrigation schemes.
