Construction companies have to work harder to meet the higher expectations of managing environmental issues and accountability in the communities they are working in or adjacent to.

All too often, environmental issues are social and community issues when the construction site boundary is a residents garden fence, or shared with the local park or water course. Stakeholders in these scenarios increase and project activities are watched more closely by the community, local and state government and the clients.

Reputation is at stake if the community and clients are not happy and/or are negatively impacted from a project.

The media reporting is at an all-time high in terms of available outlets with social media communications more common and instant and environmental/community issues can quickly become a media opportunity, before the facts are investigated fully.

Change in government regulations are putting more onus onto the contractors and projects and businesses must adapt to keep ahead of the game in an era where every dollar needs to be accounted for and corporate responsibility makes business sense, not just financially.

With hotlines for contractors, local councils and enforcement agencies red hot and ready, the construction industry must take steps to be completely confident that they are communicating and committing to environmental compliance within the communities they are working in.

The forum convenor has assembled experienced presenters from all angles of the construction arena including:

  • Contractors
  • Consultants
  • State Government
  • Local Government

We hear what it is like to be working on these larger projects with schools, housing and watercourses adjoining the sites. Planning and smart implementation can make this really effective and successful.

  • New thinking and insights experiences on major projects – real case studies
  • Skills and tools that can equip professionals on managing environmental issues in the community
  • New directions from the State government on regulations, standards and enforcement
